Q. Is it safe to give out personal
information on the internet?
A. You should exercise caution when sending personal information
(particularly credit card numbers) by e-mail. Due to the nature of the internet
and the fact that standard e-mail has no form of data encryption, it is possible
for e-mail to be intercepted in transit.
Return to Top of Page
Q. Is it safe to make credit card
purchases on the internet?
A. If the company offers a form of e-commerce which includes public and/or
private key encryption of data so that the owner of the credit card is the only
one who has access to the number, then it is safer than a similar credit card
purchase in a store or over the telephone. If the site can’t encrypt your
information then purchase elsewhere.
